Competency Based Qualification

Design Research IV: Thesis

Certificate in Interior Design (KNQF)

Unit Aim

The aim of this unit is to provide Learners with knowledge, understanding and skills in data collection, analysis and reporting techniques essential for research in interior design. This unit covers both primary and secondary data-gathering methods, emphasising the importance of data quality and reliability. Learners develop skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, utilising tools such as SPSS, NVivo, and Excel to interpret research findings effectively. The unit also focuses on structuring and presenting research results through well-organised reports, visual representations and critical discussions. In addition, Learners learn to apply research insights in the development of design solutions, ensuring evidence-based decision-making. Emphasis is placed on ethical considerations, analytical thinking and practical application, reinforced through a field visit where Learners observe and engage with real-world research practices.
